REDGRANITE AREA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Redgranite Area Economic Development Committee was held on August 2, 2007 at the Municipal Building. Attending the meeting: Jack Lungwitz, Donald Johnson, Betty Eannelli, Veronica Davidson and Roberta Reepsdorf. Also present: Karl Panazak, CAP Services and Austin Laber.
Meeting was called to order by Jack Lungwitz at 6:30 p.m. and agenda approved with deletion of item Industrial Park proposal. No minutes of prior meeting were available.
Karl Panazak presented to committee information about Innovative Approaches: Developing Affordable Rental Housing by CAP Services, Inc. of Stevens Point. CAP has been successful in constructing several projects for retired/elderly people. Some are located in Adams, Clintonville, Montello, Wisconsin Rapids and Lancaster. The construction usually consists of 18 to 24 units, having 2 bedrooms with attached garage and are about 1,000 to 1,100 square feet in size. Some of the amenities include air conditioning, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and stove. These are for independent living and are not assisted living facilities. The construction is taxable and he explained how the financing is arranged. The recommended site would be about 4 acres and have sewer and water service available. CAP Services hires someone to perform a market study before committing to a project. The committee was of the consensus to present the concept to the Village Board on August 21 and will attempt to make some recommendations for property. If such a project would be approved it could be constructed in 2008.
Austin Laber addressed the committee about his Eagle Scout project he is working on. He has chosen a project to do landscaping in front of the library, once the remodeling is completed. as part of the project he must make arrangements for work to be performed and for required materials. He has been attending organization meetings to seek some financial assistance for the materials. The committee voted to approve a payment of $50.00 for his project.
Several letters had been sent to area residents inviting them to become a member of the Economic Development Committee. Jack Lungwitz will follow up with conversation with the people. It was decided to hold the meetings on the first Tuesday of the month, which may make it more convenient for people. The committee will continue to meet every other month unless a meeting if required for some reason.
Bobbi Reepsdorf continues to work on the website and informed committee about some the things she is doing.
Discussion regarding the Welcome to Redgranite sign was held and the committee liked the photo copy shown that included the Redgranite website address. Mike Moe will be asked to get further information for committee.
The next meeting will be OCTOBER 2, 2007 - 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
